Treat each integration as a boundary: define what the device measures, what the system expects, and how failure is reported.

Protocol routes

• Zigbee: low-power device communication and reliable network membership.
• Matter: interoperable smart-home commissioning across supported ecosystems.
• KNX: structured building automation with documented group-address behavior.
• DALI: predictable lighting control, commissioning, and energy-aware scenes.

Integration checklist

1. Document the transport, power state, and commissioning path.
2. Test the normal path and one deliberate failure case.
3. Keep device naming and measurement units consistent across the handoff.

System note: A good integration makes the boundary visible. The next engineer should know where the device ends and the platform begins.
